Start with an inland pedal along shady country lanes, then head to the shore for many miles of water views in Mulberry Point, Sachems Head, and Linden Point. Lunch in Stony Creek. The route has 1,675 feet of elevation gain or 52 ft. of climbing per mile

Cheshire To Lake Compounce, Bristol,

Meet at Lock 12 Historical Park, 487 North Brooksvale Rd. (Rt. 42), Cheshire. Cycle through the farmlands of Cheshire, en route to Lake Compounce in Bristol, and beyond. There is little shade along the way, so be sure to wear your sunscreen. This is truly about the flattest ride you will encounter in Conn. with only 600 ft. of elevation gain or 19 ft. of climbing per mile. If you like hills, this isn't your ride.

Ride from Tunxis Meade Park, 50 Tunxis Meade Rd., Farmington. Loop along the Farmington River to Collinsville on the Farmington River Trail and connect via a series of roads to the Farmington Canal Trail. Lunch stop at the Stratton Brook State Park. Those needing a store to purchase food can eat their lunch by the Flower Bridge. The route has two 1-mile sections of dirt trail, plus a total of 3.5 miles of riding on roads shared with cars. The terrain is rolling with an elevation gain of 1,000 ft., or 34 ft. of climbing per mile.

Meet at Calvin Leete School, 280 South Union St., Guilford. If the parking lot is full, use Exit 59 CPL. Explore the many hidden corners of Guilford's craggy coastline, including a look at a Stonehenge-like garden sculpture (see the NYT article here). Frequent water views at no extra charge. Due to the many dead-ends that we explore, there will be a number of regrouping opportunities. Rest stop at Chaffinch Island. The only place to buy food comes late in the ride so be sure to bring all needed food and water. Total climbing is 700 ft of elevation gain or 27 ft f climbing per mile.

Meet behind the Milford Library, 57 New Haven Ave., in the parking lot next to Fowler Field and Wilcox Park (on the side by the baseball field, not the boat ramp). From I-95 North, take Exit 37. Right on High St., cross Rt. 1, and head to the Milford Green. Left on South Broad St. and cross the stone bridge. Right into the library parking lot and drive to the back lot BEHIND the tennis courts. From I-95 South, take Exit 36 and get on I-95 North to Exit 37 and follow the above directions. Route has two loops of 24 miles and 13 miles for a total of 37 miles.
Enjoy favorite views along the shore with some less familiar inland roads. Terrain is mild throughout with moderate hills and many miles of flat cruising. Lunch in Milford Center after 24 miles with the option for another 13 miles along the shore. The 24-mile version has 640 ft. of elevation gain or 26 ft. of elev. gain per mile. The 37-mile loop has 850 ft. of elevation gain or 23 ft. of elev. gain per mile.

Meet at Hollow Park, 35 Hollow Rd., Woodbury. From I-84 Exit 15, head north on Rt. 6 for 4.8 miles, then left on Rt. 317 at the light. Next left on Hollow Rd. At the stop sign, head almost straight into the park. Classic tour through farm country and wooded areas of Woodbury, Bethlehem and Litchfield along many quiet country backroads with hardly a car to be seen. The climbs alternate with long, steady descents to reward your efforts, and the last nine miles is mostly downhill. Food stop in Litchfield. Possible ice cream stop at the top of the last climb to celebrate your achievement. The route has 2,400 ft. of elevation gain or 62 ft. of climbing per mile.
